Responsibilities & Requirements

This position is accountable for supervising the provision of pharmaceutical care, staff, and workflow processes for the acute pharmacy department. A key role of this position is supervisory oversight to assure effective implementation of care and process changes that positively impact the pharmaceutical care provided to our patients.

The individual in this role must facilitate the integration of systematic change that positively impacts the provision of pharmaceutical care, quality, and customer services by the department in a fiscally sound manner.  Performs other duties as assigned.

-Demonstrates excellence in oral and written communication including a comprehensive understanding of the application of computer and spreadsheet software. 

-Ability to effectively communicate with customers and staff of varying cultures, ages & backgrounds.

-Demonstrates knowledge of inventory management principles.

-Leadership ability of both staff and processes, skilled in problem solving and process improvement.

-Ability to effectively use existing resources.

-Maintains effective operations including but is not limited to department communications; general operations workflow coordination; coordination of orientation, training, and staff development; and policy and procedure development and implementation.

-Supervise and evaluate work performance of employees within areas of responsibility. This includes leading disciplinary action, evaluations, and other HR compliance and oversight.    

-Ensure full coverage of areas of responsibility. This includes staffing open shifts, filling in for partial shifts, covering shortages and/or PTO at pharmacy sites as business dictates. Must be flexible with schedule in order to fill in during any open hours. 

-Participation by membership or as a chairperson in departmental and/or organizational committees that have operational impact on the pharmaceutical provision of care to patients.

-Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the department’s policies/procedures and key strategic initiatives.

-Provide the necessary skill sets to ensure all aspects of drug preparation, distribution, and record keeping meet or exceed the legal and regulatory accreditation standards. 

-Plan, develop and implement effective learning programs which maximize the skills and knowledge, of the professional and technical staff providing career enrichment and improving the pharmaceutical care to patients.  

-Operate as department champion through the integration of new technology related to pharmacy automation.  The application of unit-dose packaging, automation, aseptic and extemporaneous compounding in conjunction with USP standards will be an expectation of this position.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from an accredited institution or PharmD is required

Must register with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist
