Responsibilities & Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Inventory Management

  • Purchase pharmaceuticals, IV solutions, and pharmacy supplies in accordance with contracts and policies
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet clinical demand while minimizing waste and expiration
  • Monitor backorders, shortages, recalls, and substitutions while proactively communicating impacts to pharmacy leadership
  • Manage emergency medication sourcing during shortages
  • Manage recalls in an timely and efficient manner  

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Maintain relationships with wholesalers, manufacturers, and specialty distributors
  • Ensure compliance with GPO contracts and pricing agreements
  • Resolve discrepancies with vendors and coordinates credits/returns as needed

Compliance & Regulatory Support

  • Ensure purchasing and storage practices comply with USP, DEA, FDA, ACHC and the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
  • Comply with DSCSA Regulations
  • Support audits, inspections, and inventory reconciliations as needed

Data, Systems & Reporting

  • Utilize pharmacy inventory management system (Swisslog)
  • Generate and analyze purchasing, usage, and inventory reports to determine medication PAR levels in Swisslog

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with pharmacy leadership, pharmacists, technicians, finance, and supply chain teams
  • Support formulary changes, new product implementation, and clinical initiatives
  • Provide purchasing insights to support operational and budget planning

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain operations
  • Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of drug nomenclature, dosage forms, and storage requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a large acute-care medical center
  • 2+ years of pharmacy purchasing, inventory, or hospital pharmacy experience
  • Experience with GPO contracts and drug shortage management
  • Familiarity with DSCSA requirements and serialization processes
